The North Bay International Studies Project, School of Social Sciences, School of Arts and Humanities, Music Department, and American Multicultural Studies Department were honored to sponsor this performance of the Ifugao Music and Dance Ensemble of Banaue at Sonoma State University in Warren Auditorium.
The indigenous Ifugao people are the celebrated builders of the famed Banaue rice terraces in the Cordillera Mountains of Northern Luzon, Philippines. Seven virtuoso tribal artists, ages 24 to 62, performed the himong, a powerful and communal trance-inducing dance, that calls for both the living and the dead to rise up for justice; the infectious, interlocking rhythms of the gangha ensemble.
The North Bay International Studies Project was pleased to sponsor the highly successful "KAPWA: You and I are One" Conference on Filipino American history and culture at Sonoma State University on June 15-16, 2007. Academic materials and tools were provided for teachers to allow them to successfully integrate the Filipino American experience into their K-12 classes.
The two-day Conference featured speakers and presenters from both the local Filipino community and the Republic of Philippines.

The North Bay International Studies Project (NBISP) was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Grant to take 11 teachers to Davao City on the Island of Mindanao in the Philippines.
The program included study at Ateneo de Davao University with coursework developed for our American teachers, roundtrip travel, housing and per diem, and travel within the country. The teachers were in-country July 12 to August 14, 2006.
