Emergency Notification Program
When presented with a time-sensitive situation, it is beneficial to provide our entire community with reassurance and timely information.
Our AlertU Notification System gives us the ability to notify and update the entire community within minutes of a time-sensitive situation. From any location, we can dispense concise, on-time messages that will help inform our community of potentially dangerous emergencies. This systems allows us to provide information and reassurance to students, faculty, staff and parents — all while communicating with our own response team and staff.
We have contracted with AlertU, a company that specializes in technology for mass notification services, to keep students, parents, faculty and staff informed and connected in the event of an emergency.
Students, faculty, and staff have the option to provide cellular phone number to which emergency messages will be sent. Students are encouraged to talk with parents so that they may also opt into the system. This will ensure that they also receive any emergency messages that may be sent.
We are committed to using this system for emergencies only. There will be occasional tests during the year to install updates and insure the system is working. Should you have any questions regarding the system, please contact Tyson Hill, Director of Emergency Services and Disaster Planning.
Opt-In to the AlertU System
You must OPT-IN to "AlertU," to ensure you receive mass notifications during SSU critical emergencies. You will not automatically receive this information without OPTING-IN.
Please take a moment to sign up now and follow the instructions below.
Instructions:
- With your cell phone, text the letters SSU to 253788. 253788 is the text phone number to the ALERTU system.
- You will receive a 'welcome' text message.
- Reply with the letter "Y" for yes.
- Program 253788 into your phone's address book under the name SSU ALERTU. This will allow you to recognize the sender if an emergency message is sent. This is an important part of the sign up process.
Opt-Out of the AlertU System
If you no longer want to receive emergency messages from SSU AlertU, please follow these instructions to Opt-Out:
- With your cell phone, text the letters STOP to 253788.
- Once the message is sent, you will receive a confirmation text message from AlertU.
