Subject: "Arrive Alive" Campaign Focuses on Campus Riders and Pedestrians

Each year, injury collisions and fatal collisions involving pedestrians and bicyclists account for many of the traffic accidents on and around campus. In many instances, a lack of knowledge of the basic pedestrian and bicycle laws are contributing factors. Sonoma State University Police and Parking Services is committed to working with our community to maintain the safe learning and working environment we all enjoy.

The fall semester is here and it is a time that many people enjoy biking and walking around our beautiful campus. As a reminder to our community, bicyclists are subject to the same traffic laws as motorists. Some of the safety issues we have seen and had to cite riders and pedestrians for include:

To prevent as many accidents as possible, Sonoma State University Police and Parking Services is focusing on bicycle and pedestrian safety to better ensure that everyone "Arrives Alive" at their intended destination. Officers will be monitoring campus locations and responding to unsafe or illegal acts related to bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

Additionally, Police and Parking Services will be providing information through tabling, highlighting bicycle and pedestrian safety best practices and laws plus also performing bicycle registrations.

Finally, the Police and Parking Services web site has been updated with bicycle and pedestrian helpful tips, best practices, and safety laws.
