Internship Description

Job Title: Jail Drop-in Center Staff

Compensation: unpaid
Amount/Type:
Internship Length: 2 semesters preferred
Hours Per Week: To be determined

Population: Adults, Children, Couples, Family, Multicultural, Seniors, Male and Female inmates
Focus: Social Service
Setting: Community Agency (located in the Sonoma County jail)

Duties: Respond to inmates’ written requests (e.g., make calls to family, provide information about treatment programs). Document program activities in logs and ledgers. Enter data on Excel, use Internet for research and MS Word for creating documents. Provide service and support to families
and individuals or agencies impacted by someone’s incarceration (e.g., arrange to get inmate’s signature on a check; answer questions regarding jail procedures).

Qualifications: Able to work with a diverse clientele. Be comfortable making phone calls to unknown people. Resourcefulness and perseverance are a must. Be able to work with others and independently in a small office space. Must have superb critical thinking skills. It helps to have
previous office work experience and to be comfortable working in a criminal justice system environment. Will begin with simpler tasks, and based on performance may be given more complex tasks over time.

Additional Information: Depending on intern's status, interest, and availability there could be off-site projects.
