Internship Description
Job Title: Outreach Coordinator for Seniors
Compensation: Unpaid plus Non Financial Compensation: All on the job travel and
other expenses will be reimbursed, which may sometimes include meals. The
intern will have the opportunity to learn about case management and social
services provided by a community non-profit, as well as interaction with
many clients with varied levels of behavioral and mental health abilities
and concerns. The intern will also learn about the availability of social
services from very experienced case managers, as well as fundraising and
administrative aspects of running a non-profit from the executive and
development directors.

Duties: Conduct a survey two--four times a year to assess needs of
seniors residing in Novato. Determine methods to better serve Novato
Seniors through improved outreach, better collaboration with other
organizations.
Will also assist receptionist and case managers in directing walk-in
clients to the appropriate service or outside agency. Will also help
assess needs of homeless clients, and develop a resource guide for
homeless clients.
Qualifications: 2nd to 4th year student who is interested in learning
about case management services and working with vulnerable populations—low
income, homeless, disabled, new immigrants, and seniors. Although age is
not a consideration, the student should possess good self-awareness and
boundaries and be prepared to deal with complex clients and situations.
Additional Information:We will do all we can to ensure that this project is a comprehensive and
fulfilling, educational experience for an intern who is interested in
learning about the whole person dealing with a multitude of issues to
overcome obstacles in his/her life. Homeless people and seniors are often
most at risk of developing emotional and mental health
problems—depression, isolation, dementia, drug/alcohol abuse, as well as
escalation of pre-existing mental health problems which go untreated due
to their low economic status. We have a wonderful bi-lingual staff, who
are both experienced and fun to work with.
