Job Title: Family Advocate Intern
Compensation: unpaid
Amount/Type: Training + Certificate
Internship Length: 6 months

Duties: Work alongside YWCA staff for victims of domestic violence and their children. The YMCA Family Advocate Internship provides case-management experience for students interested in social work or counseling and working with families in crisis. Intern duties include answering the 24-hour domestic violence hotline, collecting client data, transporting clients, accompanying clients to court, taking care of children at the safe house and general house management. On the hotline interns provide referrals, safety plan with the caller and screen for entry into the Safe House or support group.
Qualifications: Desire to learn more about supporting victims of domestic violence and the issues they are facing. Interest in social work & case management. Cultural & crisis sensitivity. Additional language skills helpful, not required. 6 month commitment is preferred.
Additional Information: Training on domestic violence and client advocacy will begin September 12th. Call or email for dates and times, occurs 3 times per year. (40 hours; certificate upon completion).
