The Excellence in Teaching Award nomination period is now open with letters of nomination due to the Academic Senate office by Friday, February 22 at 5:30 p.m.
These annual awards recognize and reward excellence in teaching at Sonoma State University. Each year the award honors two Sonoma State University faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to the education of Sonoma State students through classroom instruction and other activities that promote student learning. These awards provide students and faculty an opportunity to reflect on the importance of teaching at Sonoma State University and in particular the contributions that award recipients have made to students' intellectual and moral growth and development.
Any member of the instructional, library or student affairs faculty, any administrator, or staff member who teaches credit-bearing courses may be nominated. To be eligible, the nominee must have taught at SSU for at least four semesters during the previous five academic years, one of those semesters being in the academic year in which the nomination occurs. Electronic letters of nomination will be accepted. More information about this award can be found at: http://www.sonoma.edu/Senate/EXCELTEACH.html.
A Campus Forum open to the University community will be held on February 28 from noon-1 p.m. in Schulz 3001. The topic will be the upcoming WASC Accreditation Capacity and Preparatory Review Team visit. Provost Eduardo M. Ochoa and Professor Andy Merrifield, Co-Chairs of the Accreditation Review Steering Committee host the forum. Additional members of the steering committee will also be available to respond to questions and concerns. Faculty, staff and students are urged to attend this open forum to learn about the itinerary for the visit.
For further information about the accreditation process, please visit the SSU Portfolio website at www.sonoma.edu/aa/portfolio, or contact Elaine Sundberg, WASC ALO, at 4-2215 or elaine.sundberg@sonoma.edu.
Academic Affairs and the Center for Teaching and Professional Development are sponsoring the attendance of 20 individuals to the CSU Academic Technology Conference. Those interested in attending should contact Brett Christie (ctpd@sonoma.edu, 4-CTPD) by February 18. Notification of sponsorship status will be given by February 25. On March 26-28, the CSU Community of Academic Technology Staff will be holding their 11th annual conference on campus.
The CATS conference focuses on the major themes, issues, topics, and technological and educational advances influencing the direction of academic technology. Conference goals include providing useful information and training about current and emerging technologies. This year's theme is "Shared Knowledge Empowers."
