"Islam 101" Tackles Skewed Ideas of Religion

Associated Students Productions presents its Religion and Spirituality Lecture Series with its first installment of the spring semester, "Islam 101," with Ameena Jandali on Wednesday, February 20 at 7 p.m. in the multi-purpose room of the Student Union. Admission is free.

Ameena Jandali is a founding member of the Islamic Networks Group, a nonprofit, educational organization promoting an understanding of the Islam through education and inter-religious dialogue as a vehicle for positive change. According to studies by the Islamic Networks Group, an overwhelming percentage of the population has skewed and inaccurate ideas about what Islam teaches.

Jandali will speak about these perceptions and put them to rest as she examines Islam's theological tenants and analysis of some of the most important practices and rituals of the Muslim community. Also discussed will be the ever-important contemporary issues of Islamic women's rights and fundamentalism. For questions or directions, PHONE 4-2782. The event is presented by Associated Students Productions and the Student Union.
