Faculty are urged to mentor outstanding undergraduate and graduate students to submit research projects for the 22nd Annual CSU Student Research Competition on May 2 and 3 at CSU East Bay. This system-wide competition showcases excellent research conducted by CSU undergraduate and graduate students. Cash prizes are awarded for the best presentations in each category, including behavioral and social sciences; biological sciences; business, economics and public administration; creative arts and design; education; engineering and computer science; health, nutrition and clinical sciences; humanities and letters; physical and mathematical sciences; and interdisciplinary studies
Students must submit a five-page summary of their research work and be prepared to make a 10-minute oral presentation at the competition in May. All expenses for attending the event will be covered by SSU. The deadline for receipt of submissions for the competition is Monday, March 10. Instructions and registration forms can be picked up in the Provost's Office, Stevenson 1041. Please contact David Hartranft, Academic Programs Administrative Assistant, at 4-2237 or david.hartranft@sonoma.edu for further information.
Faculty members are encouraged to notify eligible students of the California Pre-Doctoral Program for the 2007-2008 academic year. The program is designed to increase the diversity of the pool of potential University faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of current upper division or graduate students in the CSU who are economically or educationally disadvantaged. Special emphasis will be placed on increasing the number of CSU students who enter graduate programs at one of the UC institutions.
Selected scholars work closely with a CSU faculty sponsor to develop a plan that ultimately leads to enrollment in a doctoral program. Pre-Doctoral awards in the amount of $3,000 may be used for travel to doctorate-granting institutions and national symposia or professional meetings, for application and test fees, journal subscriptions, and membership in professional organizations. Up to $1,000 of the award may be used by the faculty sponsor for joint travel.
Selections are made at the Chancellor's Office and are based upon information given in the application. Application packets are available in the Academic Affairs office, Stevenson 1041. Completed applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on March 21. For further information contact David Hartranft at 4-2237 or Elaine Sundberg at 4-2215.
