Most people associate eating disorders with excessive dieting, over exercising
and counting calories. But eating out of control can
also be a sign of a serious problem, says Keri Harris
Counseling & Psychological Services.
"Eating disorders are fairly common on college campuses. In fact,
95 percent of those who have an eating disorder are between the ages of
12 and 25," she says.
In honor of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, February 24 to March 1, Counseling and Psychological Services is offering private, anonymous eating disorder screenings from noon - 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 and Thursday, February 28.
CAPS also offers online mental health questionnaires through its web site
at:
http://www.sonoma.edu/counselingctr/
On-line questionnaires are available free to all students. Those concerned about their eating habits, weight or body image or those of a friend can visit the above link and take the eating disorders questionnaire.
The questionnaire is confidential and provides immediate feedback as well as information on how to get help if needed. Questionnaires are also available for alcohol and depression.
