A Campus Day of Spirituality Coming March 14
The Office of Residential Life and Associated Students Productions invites the campus community to participate in an upcoming Day of Spirituality on Friday, March 14 in the Student Union from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
The goal for the Day of Spirituality is to create an inclusive environment that welcomes all members of the campus community to explore issues of faith and spirituality without fear of prejudice or discrimination.
Organizers say this is an occasion for members all faiths, denominations, and spiritual practices to gather, to see what spiritual opportunities are available in the Rohnert Park area, to hear different perspectives on faith and spirituality, and to have quiet contemplative places for students to have meditation and prayer on campus.
The events of the day include:
Spirituality Resource Fair 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Student Union - Meet representatives from various faiths, denominations, and places of spiritual practice located throughout Rohnert Park and the surrounding areas.
SSU Student Spirituality Panel 1 p.m., Student Union, Multi-purpose Room - Moderated by Sociology Professor Andy Roth, a panel of students from various religious and spiritual backgrounds share their experiences of faith and spiritual practice, and how they incorporate their beliefs into their lives as SSU students.
Screening of "10 Questions for the Dalai
Lama" 3
p.m. - Student Union, Erin Fisher Room- Discussion
facilitated by Hutchins Professor Margaret Anderson follows
a film examining some of the fundamental questions of
the times through the perspective and wisdom of an extraordinary
spiritual leader.
Spaces for Silent Meditation and Prayer - All

DOES GOD EXIST? - Dr. Eric Thompson puts
the age-old debate in long-range historical context, outlines
the issues, evidence and arguments involved and chooses
sides. Thompson has given numerous lectures on the topics
of evolution, comparative religions, and examinations of
inter-religious conflicts in the modern world. 7 p.m.,

SACRED ECOLOGY - SPIRITUAL ENCOUNTERS
WITH THE WILDERNESS - Dr. James Preston explores
the wilderness theme in a variety of religions and cultures
throughout the world and especially to different forms
of mysticism in nature. The lecture traces the wilderness
theme in American history and literature as well as examines
personal relationships with nature. What does the wilderness
and nature in general mean in our lives? Can it be a source
of healing and renewal? What is the relationship between
the wilderness within and the ecological disaster that
is emerging in our contemporary world? Free. 7 p.m., Wednesday,

THE DIFFERENT FACES OF GOD : A BATTLE OF IDEAS - Dr. Henry Shreibman explores and discusses the battle for God within Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Where do the disputes over God's will come from? Why are different religions often presented as opposing forces? What do all Abrahamic religions have in common? Why has there been such a rise in religious fundamentalism? 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 17.
