Art Gallery Manager Carla Stone Curates Grafica
Contemporanea De Mexico
Contemporary prints from Mexico are featured with the work of 13 emerging, mid-career and established printmakers in an exhibit running from April 7-June 30 in the University Library Art Gallery. Prints include linocuts, lithographs, aquatints, serigraphs, etchings, and even screen-prints on skateboards. A public reception will be held from 4-6 p.m, on Thursday, April 24.
University Art Gallery manager Carla Stone, who organized the exhibition as the cumulative project for her master's degree in Museum Studies at SFSU, chose to present the work of artists not based solely on their political interpretations, but selected artists whose work represents a variety of methods, styles, and influences which reveal a vitality of art being made in Mexico today.
While by no means comprehensive, Grafica Contemporanea de Mexico/ Contemporary Prints from Mexico, is intended to expand perceptions about and provide insights into the social and cultural contributions being made by contemporary Mexican artists. Open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; weekends, noon-5 p.m. Admission is free. For more information contact Karen Brodsky at 4-4240.
