School of Business and Economics Has New Dean
Dr. William Silver of Daniels College of Business at the
University
of Denver has been named the new Dean of the School of Business
and Economics at Sonoma State University.
Silver is currently the Senior Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer at Daniels and was previously the College's Associate Dean for Executive and Professional Programs.
He led the $50 million academic enterprise serving more than 3,200 business students and substantially increased its net revenue, emphasizing Daniel's key strengths in the business disciplines and in the areas of values-based leadership, innovation, international business and sustainable development. Memoralizing Dr. Richard A. Rodriguez
Former Counseling Center Director Richard A. Rodriguez died of natural causes on January 12. To celebrate his life and achievements, his family, friends and members of the community are holding a commemoration ceremony on Friday, May 9 from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the Student Union Multi Purpose Room. Those holding the tribute would like to create a memory book with stories and pictures about Dr. Rodriguez. People may send those stories and/or pictures, which will be sent to everyone who contributed. A scholarship fund to honor Dr. Rodriguez and continue his commitment to support students from diverse backgrounds will be created at SSU. More details on this will be announced at a later time. Celebration of Life of Barry Godolphin
A celebration of the life of Barry Godolphin, an early member of the Psychology department and a tireless proponent and mentor of student research, will be held on April 26 at 11 a.m. at the Rohnert Park Senior Center, 6800 Hunter Drive, in Rohnert Park. A potluck lunch will follow. Godolphin died last week.
Psychology Department Chair Laurel McCabe said "Barry was a generous colleague and was generous with students in time, talent, and humor. He inspired his students and left behind him many students going on in the field of psychology and dedicating themselves to research. " The Barry Godolphin Student Research Assistantship, which funded one to two students' research each academic year, was founded in his name and funded by him. Godolphin was also an active leader in the Senate who enjoyed collaborating with his colleagues.

Still Got Game?
Staff and faculty are invited to show off their basketball talent at a weekly pick-up game in the Recreation Center. On Thursdays at noon, Mike Dominguez and a group of 6-8 players meet to play basketball and are currently looking for more players - regardless of skill level. Rubin "Hurricane" Carter to be Commencement Speaker
Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter, former boxer,
writer, human rights activist,
CEO & Founder of Innocence International,
has been selected announced as this year’s Commencement
2008 speaker. After spending 22 years in prison under
false triple murder charges, Carter began speaking at
high schools, colleges, bar associations and many other
venues about issues such as literacy and education, wrongful
convictions, habeas corpus, and the death penalty. His
life has been chronicled in the movie "The Hurricane" starring
Denzel Washington and in Bob Dylan’s song
"Hurricane."
Congratulations to Carmen Works (Chemistry) and Robert Train (Modern Languages) for the honor of being selected for this year's Excellence in Teaching Award.
