This new tradition is a way for the campus community to formally academically welcome our new first year and transfer students to the university. Each student will be assigned to a classroom based on their involvement in University 102, University 150, Hutchins, transfer status or First time freshman who are not in a University 102 class. These classes are mandatory. For more information or to find out where each class/group is meeting, go to http://www.sonoma.edu/ar/admissions/firstday
The New Student Convocation is a festive welcome to the new class by the faculty of Sonoma State. It features an academic procession (if you've never seen one, you should) of faculty in their traditional ceremonial garb and a welcome to the new students by one of Sonoma's recipients of the Rowland Award for Excellence in Teaching.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) explores the strange new world of digital technologies with a talk demonstrating how the legal and technological landscape is changing for better and for worse. This is an emerging topic: colleges and universities have received thousands more legal notices about file sharing this academic year alone. The EFF lecture will explore this zone from every angle: from what's legal and what's not, to the rights we are in danger of losing, and steps you can take to protect them.
