Alumni Association Supports Student Athletes
The Sonoma State University Alumni Association has donated $1,000 to support student athletes at SSU. The contribution was made to the Gene Benedetti Endowed Athletic Scholarship Fund, established in 2002 by philanthropist and founder of Clover Stornetta Farms, Gene Benedetti
Set up to target SSU student-athletes, the endowment’s purpose is to promote and enhance a student’s academic and athletic experience while studying at Sonoma State University. The 2005-2006 scholarship recipient is men’s basketball student-athlete Kevin Christensen. Now a senior, Christensen arrived at SSU from Sacramento as a freshman and as a non-scholarship “walk-on,” who eventually earned a spot on the Seavolves’ roster. He has since earned recognition as the team’s most inspirational player for the past three years.
This year, Kevin has worked his way into the starting line-up and has led the Seawolves to one of their best seasons ever. After graduation in May, he plans to be a teacher and a basketball coach. The Gene Benedetti Endowed Athletic Scholarship has made it possible for student-athletes like Kevin to achieve their dreams of receiving education and competing in intercollegiate sports.
