"News Junkie" Looks at Journalism,
Politics and High Finance
Award-winning journalist Jason Leopold unveils the cutthroat worlds of
journalism, politics and high finance at an appearance from 7-9 p.m. on
Friday, Aug. 25 at Sonoma State University’s Cooperage.
Leopold discusses his findings from his new book,"News Junkie" in an event hosted by Project Censored, the SSU media research program. General admission is $10 and $5 for students.
In 2001, Leopold won Dow Jones’ Journalist of the Year award for his work covering the California energy crisis.
He has broken numerous stories on the financial machinations of Enron and his pieces have been published in The Nation, the Wall Street Journal, and the San Francisco Chronicle. He is a Project Censored award-winning author for his story on how Ken Lay met with Arnold Schwarzenegger to discuss "solutions to the energy woes" prior to the recall election.
Leopold is a former Bureau Chief of Dow Jones Newswires. He has also worked for the Los Angeles Times and has been a frequent guest on CNBC. Leopold currently writes for Utne Reader, Alternet, Truthout.com and CounterPunch.

War and Peace Lecture Series Begins Aug. 22
SSU's War and Peace Lecture Series begins on Aug 22 in a full schedule of discussions on everything from military intelligence to making peace in a 9/11 world to weapons of mass destruction. Speakers include Norman Solomon, nationally syndicated columnist on media and politics and Gregor Goethals, Professor Emerita of the Rhode Island School of Design.
