The Alumni Association will honor Michael Fulton (B.S. Chemistry, 1977; M.A. English, 1984) and SSU faculty member John Kornfeld (M.A. Education, 1991) at its annual Distinguished Alumni Day and Awards Ceremony Oct. 12. See story in this issue.

Call for Nominations for New International Honor Society

The Office of the Provost has announced the formation of Zeta Tau Chapter of Phi Beta Delta, honor society for international scholars on the campus. This organization strives to promote and honor high academic achievement in international education. The chapter is seeking nominations for its charter members by the campus community to be initiated in November. Membership requires the payment of dues ($15 per year). Applications can be submitted for those who meet the following criteria:

• Junior or senior or graduate student at SSU who has completed a recognized study abroad program, who maintains a 3.2 G.P.A. undergraduate, 3.5 G.P.A. graduate, and who demonstrates a continued commitment to international education.
 
• International (F-1) Junior or senior or graduate student at SSU who maintains a 3.2 G.P.A. undergraduate, 3.5 G.P.A. graduate, and who demonstrates a continued commitment to international education.

• Faculty, staff, or administrator who has a history of and continued commitment to international education, and who has been a member of the SSU campus community for a minimum of 5 academic years.

The application should summarize the nominee’s activities related to international education in a narrative of 200 words or less. It should include the nominee’s name, major or department, and contact information including email, phone, and mailing address. Please submit the application electronically to Sue Hardisty or drop off in the Office of the Provost, Stevenson 1041 by noon Sept. 18.

Explore the New Darwin Hall

SAVE THE DATE: A special ceremony to celebrate the re-opening of Darwin Hall after 18 months of renovation will be held from 1-6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29. Ribbon cutting and refreshments will kick-off the afternoon at 1 p.m. Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members will then be free to explore the new Darwin Hall with a self-guided tour. Watch for more information about the re-opening event in upcoming issues of NewsBytes.

Fridays at Four Returns

University Dining Services is pleased to bring Fridays at Four back for the Fall semester once amonth frm 4-6 p.m. at the University Club. Fridays at Four is a time to network with campus colleagues. Everyone is invited to come and snack on the delicious free food. A cash bar will also be available.The schedule for the fall semester is Sept. 15, Oct. 20, Nov. 3, and Dec. 1
