Horticultural Expert Kate Frey to Head
New Sustainable Landscape Program
Kate
Frey, an internationally recognized horticultural expert, leads the new
Sustainable Landscape Professional Certificate Program at Sonoma State
to be offered for the first time in January 2008.
Two informational meetings about the program are scheduled at 6 p.m. on Sept. 27 and Dec. 6 in Schulz 1121. An Oct. 2 meeting will be held at the Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco.
Frey helped to design and develop the award-winning gardens at Fetzer Vineyards in Hopland, Calif. She also received a gold medal at the "Chelsea Flower and Garden Show" in London, England for her sustainability-themed entry. MORE
The Strength of Civil Courage

Dr.
Svetlana Broz discusses "Civil Courage: The Strength of
Coming to Terms" on
Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m. in Warren Auditorium. Broz
is the granddaughter of the former President of Yugoslavia,
Josip Broz Tito. She volunteered in 1992 during the outbreak
of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A cardiologist, Broz's
books chronicle her patients' stories of struggle and injustice
during the Bosnian civil war, and her lecture follows the
trend of her books, speaking on civil courage and presenting
examples of bravery from various conflict areas around

Creating Leonardo-Live! at the
Arts and Humanities Forum
For
the past several years, Rob Weiner has been performing
his one-man, multimedia show, Leonardo Live! about the
life and works of Leonardo da Vinci. As part of the Arts
and Humanities Forum on Thursday, Sept. 27 at noon in Schulz
1121, he discusses "Creating Leonardo-Live! A Solo
Performance Piece about the Life of Leonardo da Vinci" and
discuss how the play developed and what he considers to
be its significance for academic and general audiences.
Joining him beforehand is Mike Ezra (Chair, American Multicultural
Studies) with a talk entitled "My First

Conversation with Teraoka and with Art Critic
The University Art Gallery is currently hosting Japanese painter, Masami
Teraoka's most recent collection, "Drawing on the Past/The Art of Masami
Teraoka" which combines Japanese and European styles of art with a
contemporary message.
Teraoka will be on campus to discuss his inspired blend of past and present Japanese and Western cultures in a discussion with well-known San Francisco Bay Area critic and writer Alison Bing on Saturday, Sept. 29 at a 2 p.m. sushi reception. The discussion continues at 3 p.m. in the Commons. His art remains on display in the University Art Gallery through Oct. 14.
Sonoma Hillel Welcomes Campus Community to Sukkah
