Residential Community Staff Has a "Full House"
The Residential Community is accommodating a "full house" of 2,400 residents this fall. This number includes approximately 1,500 first time freshmen residents - the most freshmen the community has ever housed. Move-in weekend was mid-August during which a large number of campus departments and staff worked both weekend days in order to help the campus residents get settled into their new homes. This list included: Customer Services; Financial Aid; Sea Wolf ID Cards; Conferences, Events, and Catering; Dining Services; Information Technology; Mail Services; Facilities Services; Police & Parking Services; Bookstore; Residential Life; Center for Student Involvement, Leadership, and Service; Recreation Center; Student Union, and Housing Services.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the opening BBQ at the lakes which Dining Services provide for campus residents and their families. More than 3,000 guests attended this year.
This year's campus residents are living in a variety of academic and theme-based living areas — several of which are new this year. The highly successful Freshmen Interest Groups or FIGs will again be housed in Cabernet Village.
This year's FIGs include: The Arts; Business and Economics; K-12 Education; Engineering, Math, and Science; Global Issues & Careers; Hutchins; Leadership; Pre-Health Professions; and Psychology. The social themed housing will again be housed in Zinfandel Village and include: Community Service; Healthy Living; and Adventure Living.
New for this year too are the Sauvignon Village communities which have been designed to foster personal investment and pride in their respective living environments. The students who have chosen this living option have committed to 10 hours per semester of voluntary service as a member of a cooperative team.
