MODERNIZING DARWIN
The campus community is invited to the reopening celebration of the Darwin Hall renovation from 1-6 p.m. on Friday, September 29. Tours of the building will highlight many of the new approaches to science by the six departments of the School of Science and Technology. Refreshments will be served at the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting. Student-Athletes Earn CCAA All-Academic Status
Led by six student-athletes from volleyball and women’s track/cross country, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics had 38 individuals earn CCAA All-Academic recognition during the 2006-07 year. To qualify for All-Academic status, student-athletes had to carry a 3.4 GPA over the course of the academic year.
Rikki Lee Buckshnis, Sarah Illingworth, Katie LeBeau, Rosie Manton, Megan Moore, and Mindy Orth were the six members of the volleyball team that earned All-Academic status. Track & Field/Cross Country participants to be included were Jenna Carvajal, Alena Cook, Allison Daum, April Montgomery, Teri Smith, and Jacqui Trenkwalder.
The baseball team had five All-Academic team members including Paige Dumont, Gordon Lake, Brent Lysander, Justin Wiley, and Jason Searle. Dumont was actually a two-time winner as he joined Vince Inglima as choices from the men's basketball team.
Isabel Bañales, Heather Sanders, and Alex Winters made up the softball contingent and Janelle Lombardi, Heidi Mertle, and Renee Riberdy were All-Academic selections from women's basketball.
The men's and women's soccer teams combined for nine selections including, from the women's team: Khyra Buchanan, Megan Catton, Stefanie Gelb, and Courtney Oates and from the men's team: Andrew Bailey, Brett Cook, Eric Larson, Ross Middlemiss, and Scott Preckwinkle.
Men's golf had two All-Academic members in Chris Saccone and Peter Lindbak. Women's tennis was honored with two recipients, Becky Kiehn and Laura Robertson.
