German Club Hosts Film Series
The SSU German Club is now hosting the German Film Series every other Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Erin Fisher-Room on the second floor of the Student Union. Admission is free and the campus community is invited. Films shown with English subtitles include:
Sept. 27 — The Edukators (dir. Hans Weingartner, 2004): an entertaining film that raises thoughts about rebellion and change.
Oct. 11 — Rosenstrasse (dir. Margarethe von Trotta, 2003): a film about the little-known successful protest of hundreds of German women in Berlin's Rosenstrasse to demand the return of their Jewish husbands from the Nazis.
Oct. 25 — Anatomie (dir. Stefan Ruzowitzky, 2000): a thriller about a medical student at Heidelberg who knows she is on for something very strange when the body of a young man she met on the train turns up on her dissection table. The student begins to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death and uncovers a gruesome conspiracy perpetrated by an Anti-hippocratic secret society operating within the university.
Nov. 8 — The Harmonists (dir. Joseph Vilsmaier, 1999): tells the true story of the famous German sextet, the "Comedian Harmonists", from the day they met first in 1927 to the day in 1934 when they become banned by the Nazis because three of them are Jewish. Beautiful and witty music.
Dec. 6 — The Simpsons (in German) and Der Struwwelpeter (the wonderful/gruesome classical children's cartoon from 1844 that German kids still love today)
*Kaffeestunde,* a weekly informal get-to-gether for people interested in brushing up their German, is held every Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Charlie Brown Cafe. Everybody is invited. For further information on both programs, contact Michaela Grobbel, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, 4-2637.
