Escape into nature with a tour through the woodlands
of the Fairfield Osborn Preserve.
Special Opportunity for Faculty and Staff to
Visit Fairfield Osborn Preserve
Faculty and staff and their families are invited to tour Fairfield Osborn Preserve with Director and biology professor Nathan Rank from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 or Sunday, Nov. 19.
Located just 7.5 miles from campus on the northwestern slope of Sonoma Mountain and originally a Nature Conservancy project, the preserve now belongs to Sonoma State University and is managed as a research and education site. This protected landscape harbors a dazzling array of natural communities within its 411 acres, including mature oak woodland, evergreen forest, chaparral, native bunch grassland, vernal pool, pond, marsh and perennial fishless stream. Visitors routinely sight pileated woodpeckers, golden eagles, Pacific giant salamanders and western pond turtles.
New faculty members are especially encouraged to visit and learn how a field trip to the preserve can enhance course content. Two tours will be offered and space is limited. Pre-registration is required. To register, please contact, Julia Clothier, Preserve manager, at 795-5069 or fairfield.osborn@sonoma.edu.
