Project Censored and Will Durst Host First
Annual Media Accountability Conference, Nov. 3-4
Renowned media research group Project Censored is hosting the first annual Media Accountability Conference to mark its 30th release of the Top Under-covered news stories of the year. The conference takes place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
Investigative journalists and researchers are gathering from around the country to present important, well-documented stories that the mainstream failed to cover and to discuss the current media system - what is covered, what isn't covered, and why. Conference panelists and speakers include FAIR co-founders Jeff Cohen and Martin Lee, Scholars for 9-11 Truth founder Steven E. Jones, investigative journalist Greg Palast, Flashpoints host Dennis Bernstein, and many other journalists and researchers.
Steven E. Jones presents the keynote address Friday night, Nov. 3.
Jones is a physicist from Brigham Young University who helped co-found
Scholars for 9-11 Truth, an organization which advocates for a more
critical and thorough analysis of the events that took place on that day.
Despite increasing controversy and external pressure, Jones continues
to bring forward information and raise difficult questions about the 9-11
tragedy. His keynote will cover the current data coming out about the fall
of towers #1, 2, and 7. He will discuss the filtering of such information;
which stories receive some mainstream coverage and which do not.
Conference panels cover a host of hidden stories: from the water crisis that everyone but the U.S. now recognizes, to the well-known government contractor that recently (and illegally) sold nuclear materials to Iran.
Topics addressed include internet control and the control of information, growing domestic militarization, the impact of the global economy on our daily lives, conflicts of interest at all levels of government, and more. The conference ends Saturday night with the Real News Awards, honoring the researchers who work so well to unearth the important but hidden news stories, followed by a performance by comedian Will Durst.
Music, food, and a no-host bar will also be featured throughout the evening. To find out more about the conference schedule, panels, presenters, or the stories, visit the conference website atwww.projectcensored.org/conference or call the Project Censored conference line at 4-3160.
