The University Library, the Center for Performing Arts and the Sonoma City Opera host the discussion "Confessions of Jack London: A Chat With Philip Littell" at noon on Oct. 30 in the Jack London Reading Room in the University Library (3rd floor south). Littell is author of the text for "Every Man Jack," a new opera commissioned by the Sonoma City Opera, which has its world premiere at from Nov. 11-19 in the Evert B. Person Theatre.

Celebration of Life of Denise Kirchner-Krempetz, on Nov. 4 in Marin

A celebration of the life of Denise Kirchner-Krempetz will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4,  at the Playhouse in San Anselmo, 27 Kensington Road, San Anselmo. Friends and colleagues are invited to share their memories, stories and photos of Kirchner who died suddenly earlier this month. She was a designer and co-supervisor in the Center
for Performing Arts Costume Shop since 2003. The memorial features an open mic and music from 1950-2006.

THE INFAMOUS SSU HALLOWEEN PARTY IS NEARING and it is time to finish those irreverent skits and plan to take the stage at noon on Oct. 31 in the Commons. Judges this year are Yvonne Clarke, University Affairs; Aurelia Melgar, Disabled Students Services; Jim Morgan, University Bookstore; Jack Ritchie, University Library; and Carla Stone, Art Gallery.




Lecture on Teaching High School Math, Nov. 1

Three area high school teachers discuss “Teaching High School Math - Rewards & Perils” from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday,  Nov. 1 in Darwin 103. Yolanda Woods, Emily Savinar-Nogue, and Sean Gregory from Napa High School discuss the difficulties and joys of their chosen vocation and how their schooling and experience have contributed to what they know about the science and art of teaching mathematics. Issues such as No Child Left Behind and the emphasis on high stakes achievement tests, quality teaching and the search for “highly qualified” teachers, along with teacher shortage, will also be discussed. Men's Baskektball Opens Season at Cal Berkeley, Nov. 2

The Men's Basketball team travels to Berkeley this Thursday, Nov. 2 to play the Cal Bears in an exhibition game starting at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion. Still Room for Hikers on Saturday Trek Through FOP

Space is still available for faculty and staff and their families to tour Fairfield Osborn Preserve in Penngrove with the Director, biology professor Nathan Rank, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
