Overview of WebCT Upgrade Set for Nov. 2

A new feature overview of the WebCT upgrade will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov 2, in Schulz 3001. IT is upgrading WebCT to Campus Edition 6. A pilot of this version is running this semester with a handful of nursing and education courses. All faculty, staff and students will be using the new version in Spring 2007.

WebCT CE 6 is a major upgrade. There are many new features, including an updated dynamic interface, new tools, and improvements to existing tools.

For a more complete list of new features, improvements and screenshots, see the WebCT CE 6 Key Features page. The IT Web Office will schedule many workshops to help faculty and students learn how to use the new version.  Faculty will be able to migrate content from past courses if they wish.   For further information, email Barbara Moore.

Change in Business Card Stock

After many comments about the quality and thickness of the card stock used for the University’s business cards, the University Affairs Office has decided that a thicker, more substantial feeling card stock is more appropriate to represent Sonoma State University. The new stock will also add to the durability of the business cards.

Because the card stock is more expensive than the card stock currently used, the cost of business cards will go up by $10 which will be added to each business card order. (Not by quantity of business cards, but per order.)

As an example:
 250 business cards  $55  + $10
 500     “             “    $65  + $10
1000   “             “    $85 + $10

Vertical cards still require an additional $10 and will include the new surcharge for the upgraded card stock.

Burglaries on Campus

During the daytime hours on Oct. 17 and 18, offices in Stevenson and Darwin Halls were burglarized. Both cases are being investigated by Police Services. Anyone with information that may assist the police in identifying the individual(s) responsible, should call Police Services at 4-2143 or the anonymous hotline at 4-2910.

As a reminder, thefts are often crimes of opportunity. Remember to lock all doors and windows when away from offices or buildings for even a short period of time. Remember to set alarms and make sure doors shut completely when leaving.  Secure or store valuables in a safe place or take them with you when leaving. Report suspicious activity to Police Services, and report any windows, doors or locks that are not working or in disrepair to Customer Services at 4-2308 so that Facilities can repair or replace them.
