Educational Travel Opportunities Abound at Extended Education

A number of new travel study programs are being offered, and more are in development, as the School of Extended Education expands its educational travel study opportunities. The following programs are open to the public. SSU staff and faculty are especially welcome to enroll.

“Americans in Paris:  Art, Exile and the City of Lights”
This program offers students a four-week, intensive program in philosophy, the arts and history on location in Paris from May 31-June 30, 2007.  Classes will be taught in English. Course instructors are Professors Eric McGuckin and Mutombo M’Panya.

“Vietnam at the Crossroads”
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute trip is planned for March 11-25, 2007.  The trip originates in Hanoi, goes through Hue and Hoi An and concludes in Ho Chi Minh City.  Local guides and experts enrich this experience with discussions of the country’s changes since 1975.  Gloria Neumaier, a resident of the country for 15 years and OLLI faculty member, will accompany the SSU group.

“China Highlights”
Planned by the SSU Alumni Association for June 5-20, 2007, this trip explores China’s most fascinating sites—the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors and much more. It includes a 5-star cruise on the Yangtze River, through the beauty of the gorges.  SSU History Professor Randy Dodgen will lead this group.

“Culture, Language Immersion, and Healthcare Delivery in Guadalajara, Mexico”
This is an additional program offered for nurses and nursing students and allows nurses and student nurses the opportunity to learn about the complexity of health care and nursing in the second largest city in Mexico. Upper division nursing credit and CEU for nurses are available.  Drs. Carole Heath and Sandra DeBella Bodley will accompany students to Guadalajara.

Extended Education is staffed and ready to partner with other faculty and campus organizations that wish to expand programs with an educational travel study component. For more information, please contact Joni Boucher at 4-2615 or e-mail joni.boucher@sonoma.edu.
