RSCAP Mini-Grant
Deadline is Nov. 21

The Faculty Subcommittee on Sponsored Programs (FSSP) announces the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the 2006-07 RSCAP Mini-Grants. The submission deadline has changed significantly from previous years. Proposals are due in the ORSP office, Nichols 146, by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

These grants assist faculty in initiating, continuing or completing research, scholarship and creative activity projects. The Instructionally Related Activities Program for RSCAP Student Assistant Supplements has provided additional funding for the 2006/2007 Mini-Grant cycles.

These supplements, funded by student fees administered by the Fee Advisory Committee, are available specifically for the purpose of involving paid student assistants in Mini-Grant projects.

The RFP, application cover sheet, and budget worksheet may be accessed at the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs web site. Paper copies are also available through ORSP. For more information contact Carol Hall, the administrative coordinator in Nichols 146.

Second Round of Tours Set for Faculty and Staff to Visit Fairfield Osborn Preserve

Faculty, staff and their families are invited to tour Fairfield Osborn Preserve with Preserve Director and Biology Professor Nathan Rank from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. New faculty are especially encouraged to visit and learn how a field trip to the preserve can enhance course content.

Located just 7.5 miles from campus on the northwestern slope of Sonoma Mountain and originally a Nature Conservancy project, the preserve now belongs to Sonoma State University and is managed as a research and education site.

This protected landscape harbors a dazzling array of natural communities within its 411 acres, including mature oak woodland, evergreen forest, chaparral, native bunch grassland, vernal pool, pond, marsh and perennial fishless streams.

Visitors routinely sight pileated woodpeckers, golden eagles, Pacific giant salamanders and western pond turtles. Pre-registration is required. To register, please contact the Julie Clothier, Preserve manager at (707) 795-5069 or fairfield.osborn@sonoma.edu.
