Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Grove
Reception Provides Look at Emerging Sculpture

The campus community is invited to a reception acknowledging the progress of the Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Sculpture on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Art Gallery. A studio visit and site tour with artist and sculptor Jann Nunn, who designed the work as a constant reminder of past atrocities and a symbol of hope for the future, is included in the event. In November 2006, the University approved the design and installation of a Holocaust and Genocide Memorial Sculpture to honor the victims, survivors and families of the Holocaust and other genocides around the world. This memorial is the first of its kind on a California State University campus, and one of few such permanent installations in Northern California. Universal Design for Learning
Explained in Nov. 16 Workshop

"Putting Your Teaching Philosophy Into Practice" is the subject of a workshop and discussion on Universal Design for Learning and its potential benefits to be presented from noon to 2 p.m. on Nov. 16 in Salazar 2020. Emiliano Ayala,  Professor of Education, describes how the principles of Universal Design for Learning enable faculty to effectively and creatively design and teach a course in a way that makes learning accessible to a wider range of students. UDL is a proactive approach to designing course instruction, materials, and content to benefit students of all learning styles without afterthought-based adaptation or retrofitting, Ayala says. How faculty can become part of a Faculty Learning Community on UDL, with stipends and other incentive given, will also be explained. Register online at http://tinyurl.com/2w67uk.
