Chemistry Professor Carmen Works is featured in a History channel episode of "Man, Moment, and Machine " at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21. Above, Works shows host Hunter Ellis how to make hydrogen gas from iron and sulfuric acid for an episode on Abraham Lincoln and the hydrogen spy balloon used during the Civil War. Each one-hour episode in the series explores stories of human drama and incredible invention - the history-making intersections of new technologies and the individuals who developed or applied them at a pivotal moment to create a milestone events. SAVE THE DATE: Aurelia Melgar’s Retirement
Celebration Set for Dec. 15
The Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division is celebrating Aurelia Melgar's 34 years of service at a reception in her honor from 3:30 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15 in the Commons. Melgar began her career in the Department of Education on Dec. 26, 1972. She has worked in Interdisciplinary Studies, MAMS/NAMS, Human Services, Counseling and Psychological Services and her current home, Disability Student Services. Her commitment to the University is evident in her volunteer activities as well. She is a past advisor for Sigma Pi Alpha sorority and the DJ Club and is currently the advisor and sister of Lambda Sigma Gamma, Inc.
Aurelia was active as a member of the Hopland Band of Pomo Indians and contributes her time to Catholic Charities. Her plans for retirement include travel and spending time with family. Be on the lookout for Aurelia at San Francisco Giants' games this coming season, as she will be working part time for the organization. The campus community is invited.
