"An Inconvenient Truth" Here Nov. 8
Associated Students Productions and Residential Life are proud to host the SSU premiere of former Vice President Al Gore and filmmaker Davis Guggenheim’s "An Inconvenient Truth" at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. in the SSU Student Union’s Multi-Purpose room. The film documents the degradation of the environment and Al Gore’s relentless efforts to raise public awareness of global warming. It presents controversial information that may prompt a heated discussion after the screening. A frank and open audience discussion follows the film. Saturday Writing Retreat Features
Journaling Class with Charlene Geiss
The Vicki Bailey Lecture Series in Depth Psychology is offering a Transformative Journaling class with Charlene Geiss from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Cooperage. "This Saturday writing retreat is set like a multi-faceted jewel to explore the depth encounters possible in journal-writing," says Psychology Chair Laurel McCabe. Geiss teaches a kaleidoscope of techniques that allow individuals to surprise themselves with the hidden self within. Through techniques such as dialogic play, the journal as letter writing, diarist changes in voice and tense, the use of art techniques, and changes of perspective, participants encounter the hidden wisdom and playfulness within their own natures. Informational Meeting on OD Program
An informational meeting on the Organizational Development program will be held 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Stevenson 3095. This Masters of Arts in Psychology teaches leadership skills needed for successfully guiding constructive collaborative change. The program is designed for active learners and involves interactive seminars, hands-on projects and internships. The two-year program meets two nights a week and one Saturday each month. Freidel Talks of Winter Lake Excavations
Geography Professor Dorothy Freidel continues the School of Social Science Brown Bag Series with a talk entitled, "Along the Shores of Winter Lake: People and Paleo-environment of Pleistocene-Holocene Transition Near Paisley, South-Central Oregon." Faculty, staff, students and interested others are invited from noon to 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 in Stevenson 2011. Evidence from excavation of paleo-lake shoreline sediments and cultural deposits in wave-cut caves near Paisley, Oregon, suggest that people lived along the shores of Winter Lake as early as 14,000 years ago.
Men's Basketball Home Opener vs. Dominican, Nov. 7
The Men's Basketball team opens the 2006-07 home schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 7 when they host the Dominican University Penguins in an exhibition game starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Seawolf gym. Faculty and staff can receive a complimentary ticket for the game by presenting a valid SSU I.D. card at the box office the night of the game.
