Marilyn Dudley Flores,
Sociology, has had book chapters accepted for publication in a series
of four books on the future. They include "Future Tense: War and
Peace in 2015," in "America: Moving Ahead" and "Romancing
the Clone: The Future of the Family and Related Issues," in "Getting
Personal: Staying Ahead", (volumes 2 and 3). They are edited by Arthur
Shostak and are set to be published by Chelsea House Publishers in Fall
2004. Elizabeth C. Martinez, Modern Languages and Literatures, recently presented at the annual conference of the National Association of Chicana/o Studies, held in Albuquerque, N.M. Her paper was titled, "Multiple Perspectives on the Border: How a Curandera Influenced Recent Literature and Theater in the U.S. and Mexico." Leny Mendoza Strobel,
American Multi-Cultural Studies Department, presented a paper, "Contemporary
Appropriations of the Filipino Babaylan Tradition: Filipino American Sites,"
at the Asian American Studies Conference held in Boston, in March. Strobel
has also contributed a chapter to the book, "Not Home But Here: Filipino
Writings in the Diaspora," and will be reading at the book's launch
on May 9 at the San Francisco Public Library at 1 pm. Greta Vollmer, English,
presented a two-day workshop entitled "A Genre-Based Pedagogy for
English Language Learners" at a Study Retreat sponsored by the California
Writing Project in San Diego, California recently. The retreat brought
together secondary level teachers and program administrators from around
California to discuss literacy and composition theory relevant to the
