CDL
Says Farewell to Rachel Smith
Rachel
Smith, Senior Interface Designer with the Center for Distributed Learning,
left this June to become the Director of Programs and Project Development
for the New Media Consortium.
Smith worked for the Information Technology department as an instructional
technology consultant and offered many workshops over the last seven years
to help faculty integrate the web into their teaching.
Smith was a founding member of the Center for Distributed Learning and
a key contributor to all of its projects since it came to campus in 1997.
During the last seven years, her body of work included such significant
efforts as the Instructional Management Systems project, MERLOT, the Community
of Academic Technology Staff, educational simulation development, including
Biology Labs Online which has been used at more than 600 institutions
of education, SSU's LightBridge project, and most recently the Pachyderm
project with the New Media Consortium, and the CSU's new Math Success
initiative.
Through it all, Rachel's designs have made these products and programs
successful and defined CDL's visual identity, says Lou Zwieier, CDL director.
"Rachel is also gifted teacher and trainer, sharing her knowledge
of design and instructional technology at CATS workshops, at regional
and national conferences, and with faculty and students here at Sonoma
State. We wish her well."
She can be reached at rachel@nmc.org.
