Sam Brannen, Mathematics, recently published a paper titled "Three Dimensional Projection Bodies" in vol. 5 (2005) no. 1 of Advances in Geometry. Lorna Catford, Psychology, and Elaine Leeder, Sociology, have been awarded a $70,000 grant from the California State Department of Developmental Services for a Collaborative Autism Training and Service project. In this partnership with North Bay Regional Center, Sonoma County Office of Education and several other local agencies, Catford will identify the service and training needs of local families of children diagnosed on the autism spectrum. She will also design courses for SSU students and professionals which draw on existing autism research and practice, and arrange guest lectures by community experts in the field. SSU students will have a civic engagement component by working with the children and their families. Janet Hess, Hutchins, has just published her first book, "Art and Architecture in Postcolonial Africa," with McFarland Press (see www.mcfarlandpub.com [search "hess"]). In 2004, Hess was awarded a certificate from the Residential Life's Academic Initiatives Committee for her "committment and dedication to educating all Sonoma State University Students" and from the Order of Omega for her "unrelenting efforts, dedication and commitment to assisting students of the Greek community." She is presently at work on "Forgotten Genius," an anthology of essays on the art of African American artist Richard Mayhew. Barbara Lesch McCaffry, Women's and Gender Studies, was awarded the California Association of Teachers of English Award for Classroom Excellence (College) recently in recognition of outstanding teaching skills in the classroom at the annual CATE Conference in Santa Clara, California. Gerryann Olson, Psychology, presented as part of a panel at the Association of American Colleges and Universities’ annual meeting in San Francisco, January 26-29. Olson spoke on an all-CSU panel on the topic, “Engaged Faculty Who Cross Disciplinary Boundaries.” A total of 20 SSU representatives attended the annual meeting, supported by funding from the Office of the Provost, Academic Affairs.
