A Weekly E-Newsletter for SSU
Faculty and Staff
Random Act of Kindness,
Regalia Style
Retired History Professor Dennis Harris took one last look at his well-used UC Santa Barbara academic regalia...and then took the next step. He passed it on.
The happy recipient of this random act of kindness was a fellow UC SB graduate and history professor Kathleen Noonan who was more than ecstatic about the gift.
Harris hopes he can convince other emeritus faculty to follow his lead and loan or give their regalia to junior colleagues who often can't afford the price tag of a new cap and gown on their own.

New Agreement with Shanghai Institute
Opens Door to China for Students, Faculty
A new pathway for students from China to study in Sonoma State University's computer science engineering program opens this week as SSU signs an agreement with the Shanghai Sanda Institute.
Scheduled to be signed on Monday, March 7, the agreement provides for two Sanda graduate students to study in the Masters of Science in Computer Engineering Science program and for SSU graduates to teach English oral communication skills at Sanda as paid interns. SSU faculty will also have the opportunity to work at Sanda to teach short summer courses.
Sanda plans to hire the Chinese students trained at SSU as faculty upon their return and will encourage future students to apply for study at SSU privately as well.
An informational meeting will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 in Stevenson 1029. Further information on the agreement with the School of Extended Education and Sanda can be found online at
www.sonoma.edu/exed/ssali/china.htm.
