Network and Telecommunications Services, completed a Master of Science
degree in Business Administration (Telecommunications Management Option)
last quarter at CSU, East Bay. This interdisciplinary program, the
first of its class in the CSU System, originally started in 1997 with
the intention of recognizing the industry need to produce skilled telecommunications
administrators that have hands-on technical experience as well as a
solid managerial background. Successful completion of this academic
degree was possible thanks to the support of SSU Information Technology,
SSU Human Services and the CSU Fee Waiver Program. Elizabeth C. Martinez, Chicano and Latino Studies and Modern Languages & Literatures, published an article in the current issue of Americas, published by the United Nations office in Washington D.C., which reports on Latin American figures and culture. Martinez's article is titled, "Elena Poniatowska: Voice of the Voiceless," and is a personal interview and essay evaluating one of Mexico's greatest contemporary writers. The magazine publishes both English and Spanish versions, and Martinez also wrote her article in Spanish, which appears in the April issue with the title, "Elena Poniatowska: La Voz de los sin voz." Suzanne Toczyski, Modern Languages and Literatures, recently published Volume 52 (2004) of French 17: An Annotated Descriptive Bibliography of French 17th Century Studies. Toczyski's team of fourteen contributing editors sent work from as far away as Ireland, and also from universities from Berkeley to Maine. This year's edition ran more than 250 pages and will be housed in libraries around the world, from Norway to New Zealand. David Van Nuys, Psychology Emeritus, reports that the HBO cable network has taken out an option on the book he co-authored, This is the Zodiac Speaking: Into the Mind of a Serial Killer. HBO is considering the creation of a mini-series based on the book by Mike Kelleher and Van Nuys. Francisco H. Vazquez, Hutchins, presented a paper, "The Furies and Apollo: Latino/as and Public Citizenship in the U.S.A," at the III Congreso Internacional de Literatura Chicana in May 2002, and now it has been published in Perspectivas Transatlánticas en la Literatura Chicana: Ensayos y Creatividad, edited by María Herrera-Sobek, Francisco Lomelí and Juan Antonio Perles Rochel (Universidad de Málaga, España, n.d.)
