Residential Life
Coordinators

I have worked in residential life for eight years here at SSU. I have never seen the quality of work better in terms of our Residential Life Coordinators and the role they play on campus. From roommate conflicts, to coordinating campus and residential community programs, to teaching classes, to providing limits and education to our residents regarding the plethora of issues that 18 - 21 years old can find themselves in, to working with parents, student staff, faculty etc., the RLCs have literally touched thousands of students lives. The weeks prior to Spring Break have been incredibly difficult in terms of students challenging the guidelines of our community, a wide variety of emotional issues that are dealt with in some very self- destructive manners, and random emergencies such as a recent fire in one of the student suites. The RLCs have been professional, have worked tirelessly to provide our students with support and challenge, and have almost literally worked around the clock to ensure that the rights, responsibilities and safety of ALL of our residents are taken into consideration. I have never been more proud of a staff as I am this year!

Coordinator

Pablo Romero

Geo Team

These two get my high five and then some! During a two day crisis of finding all of our desktop files gone, they quickly came to our rescue. Without our computers, we are rendered helpless and they fixed the problem right away with a smile and a sense of humor. Knowing they were under so much pressure from a lot of people, they remained so patient and helpful with all of our needs. The Health Center can't thank you enough!

Full Schedule

Desperately Seeking Ushers for Commencement 2005

Mike Kiraly is not ashamed to admit it. He is desperate. Kiraly, coordinator for the all-important ushers at Commencement, is looking for approximately 20 people each for the morning and afternoon ceremonies on May 28.

Ushers provide invaluable assistance at Commencement by being a highly visible point-person to answer questions, give directions, watch for security or safety issues, and maintain a clear path for the graduates and platform party as they process through the commencement field to their seats. Each shift is about five hours each and volunteers are welcome to work both ceremonies if they wish.

If interested, contact Kiraly in the Library at 4-4153 or mike.kiraly@sonoma.edu. Besides getting Kiraly's deepest thanks for pitching in, volunteers will also receive a Commencement T-shirt.

Engaged Scholarships and RTP
Addressed in Upcoming Presentation

“Boyer, Engaged Scholarship and New Models for RTP” will be presented by Jerry Eisman, faculty scholar with the CSU Chancellor’s Office of Community Service Learning, from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 28 in Schulz 1121.

This workshop is intended for faculty in departments that are examining their RTP policies and practices to better support faculty-engaged scholarship. This includes service learning, action research, and other community focused efforts. There will be a brief description of the Boyer model of scholarship followed by discussions on how to evaluate faculty efforts in the community. Models from other institutions will be presented.

This workshop is jointly sponsored by the Office of Community-Based Learning and The Center for Teaching and Professional Development. Please RSVP to OCBL@sonoma.edu or by phoning Amra Stafford at 4-4302 or Geri Olson at 4-2265.

CIHS Faculty Consultant Positions Available

The California Institute on Human Services has begun a new program to increase collaboration between SSU tenure and tenure-track faculty and CIHS project directors. Tony Apolloni, Executive Director of CIHS, says the new program will pair individual faculty content expertise with CIHS expertise in project design, research and evaluation design, and funder networking. It will also provide faculty members with the opportunity to actively engage in externally funded projects and programs beneficial to SSU's academic mission.

Faculty interested in applying will need to obtain the approval of their dean, including a determination as to whether, if selected, they will be hired into CIHS on a release time or overload basis. The initial positions will be offered at 10% levels of effort, with the possibility of higher levels of effort in the future withpermission of appropriate school deans. To see details of the seven positions currently available, visit www.sonoma.edu/cihs/cihs/facultyJob/index.html.

Questions should be addressed to George Triest at 4-3929.
