Removal of Empty WebCT Courses by September 29

Empty WebCT courses from Winter 2004 through Summer 2005 will be removed on Sept. 29.  This is being done to improve WebCT reliability and reduce the risk of a service failure. Courses that will NOT be removed include official courses and empty course shells for Fall 2005, courses that contain any content, backups or email/discussion posts, development courses, and courses created by special request.

This course deletion will occur on Sep. 29, based on course usage reports from Sept. 28. IT will make a backup of all courses, both used and unused, in the unlikely event that a used course is accidentally deleted. After the course deletion, those courses will no longer be listed in the myWebCT course listing. Questions or comments regarding WebCT should be directed to Barbara Moore, barbara.moore@sonoma.edu

Scheduling Dates for University Computer Labs

Lab availability has been greatly impacted by the Darwin Hall closure last year. In an effort to try to meet increased demands coupled with a decreased number of computer labs, lab requests for the Spring 2006 semester will be accepted beginning on Oct. 1. Although requests are sorted and assigned by need, the earlier requests are made, the better the chance of getting a first choice. For requests received before Oct. 15, lab managers will attempt to resolve scheduling conflicts and confirm lab reservations in time to meet the deadlines for the printed schedule of classes. Any forms received before Oct. 1 will be returned unprocessed.

Refer to the lab pages (http://www.sonoma.edu/it/labs/) for information about lab locations, available hardware, currently-available software, and lab managers, as well as procedures on lab usage. Lab scheduling requests should be submitted using the online form. Paper versions of the form are still accepted, but older versions of the form may be incomplete or inaccurate and may produce processing delays. The web-based lab request form is located at http://www.sonoma.edu/it/labs/schedule.html.

In order to avoid processing delays, please fill out the request forms completely. Include alternate days and times and indicate the software required. Because of licensing limitations and usage patterns, the software installed in any specific lab changes from one semester to the next. Questions? Call the Lab Managers at 4-LABS (4-5227, on-campus only) or e-mail lab.managers@sonoma.edu.
