National Depression Screening Day
Free depression screening for students, faculty and staff is being offered on campus on Thursday Oct. 6 as part of National Depression Screening Day. Mental health professionals from Counseling and Psychological Services in conjunction with the Student Health Center. Counselors will be available at several locations on campus including the Student Health Center (9 a.m.- 4 p.m.), the Student Union - Club Room (1-4 p.m.), and Counseling & Psychological Services - 1088 Stevenson Hall (noon-1 p.m. and 3-4 p.m.). The counseling center staff will present a workshop on "Coping with Depression" to all members of the campus community at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 in the Carneros room in Cabernet Village at the northwest corner of campus. Counselors will discuss how to recognize signs and symptoms of depression and how to cope with depression as well as suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
National Depression Screening Day is a nationwide program designed to provide information about the signs, symptoms and treatment of depression, bipolar disorder and other mental health disorders.
Social Sciences is Looking for a Logo
The School of Social Sciences needs a new logo for its commencement banner and is sponsoring a logo contest for all social sciences students and faculty. The judging criteria is the logo visually representing themes in the social sciences vision statement such as diversity, global society, social change, social justice, human betterment and preservation of knowledge. A grand prize of $300 will be awarded to the designer whose work is selected. Pick up an entrant form from Connie Lewsadder in Stevenson 2078. Entry deadline is Friday, Nov. 4.
Benefit Fair Offers Many Options, Oct. 11
The 2005 Benefit Fair is scheduled from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct 11 in Schulz 1121. Benefit plan representatives will be available to address employee questions and concerns. Staff members will assist with processing enrollment or changes. Information will be available about University paid life insurance, long term disability insurance (if applicable) and the advantages of participating in the available flexible spending accounts, which are designed to help invididuals pay less taxes. A representative for the CalPERS Long Term Care Program will assist with plan choices and financial planning to protect assets and lifestyles against the catastrophic costs of long-term care.
Seawolf Shop Invites Holiday Crafters to Sell Wares
Seawolf Shops is hosting a small staff craft fair during its Holiday Open House from Nov. 15-17 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. each day. Faculty and staff are invited to sell their craft items and collect the sales tax. The actual sales price will be given back to the crafter.
