PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Suzanne Toczyski, Modern Languages and Literatures, presented a paper entitled "Libation Exploration: Caribbean Cocktails, or, What Jean-Baptiste Labat's Recipes Reveal about the Colonial Space in Fin-de-Siècle Martinique" at the 24th Annual Conference of the Society for Interdisciplinary French 17th-Century Studies in Brunswick, Maine at the beginning of October. She has been invited to present her work on the 17th-century missionary Labat at Yale and at Bucknell University next year.

Conne Lewsadder, Social Sciences, won first prize for her carrot bread in the Best of Section - Baked Goods category at the recent Sonoma County Harvest Fair. The bread has also won a blue ribbon at the Santa Rosa Fair and the Petaluma Fair. She also entered her mango/macadamia nut bread at the Harvest Fair and it came in second place in its category. The next bread she working on is papaya/coconut bread as part of her Czarina Bread company. Recipes are a secret, she insists.
