Jonathan Kozol, education advocate and acclaimed author of “Savage Inequalities” and “Ordinary Resurrections” lectures from his new book, “The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America,” at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 in Evert B. Person Theater. This lecture is part of the Andrea Neves and Barton Evans Social Justice Lecture Series. Tickets are now on sale at the Sonoma State Student Union for $5 general admission. SSU students will be admitted free of charge. For ticket information, call 4-2382. The lecture is also sponsored by the School of Social Sciences and the School of Education, along with the Office of Instructionally Related Activities and Associated Student Productions.

AXIS Dance

Disabilities and abilities take the stage with AXIS Dance

AXIS Brings Abled and Disabled Dance to the Stage

Associated Students Productions brings the pioneering work of AXIS Dance Company to the stage at Person Theater at 8 p.m. on Nov. 4. The ensemble features abled and disabled dancers in pieces that epitomize grace and beauty. Tickets are $15 general, $10 group rate, and free to SSU students with a valid ID.

Based out of Oakland, the AXIS Dance Company was formed in 1987 and paved the way for the “physically intergrated dance” movement. The nationally renowned troupe has won numerous nominations and awards for their work over the years. In addition to their performances, the troupe’s community outreach/education arm, Dance Access, works with both children and adults spreading (dis)ability awareness to the global community.
