PROFESSIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Elizabeth C. Martínez, CALS/Modern Languages, has published an article (expanded from an oral presentation) in the two-volume set, "Proceedings of the Pacific Coast Council on Latin American Studies, 2002-2003" just released by Xlibris/Random House. Her article is titled: "Indigenous Harmony of Life Being Lost: The Examples of Manlio Argueta and Sandra Benitez."
Wendy Ostroff, Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, chaired a panel entitled "Feeding the Feedback Loop; Self-Awareness about Teaching Self-Awareness" at the Second Annual Conference of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dr. Ostroff and her colleagues from the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning led an interactive, seminar-style session in which participants explored how conducting research projects in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning has made an impact on their pedagogies, how coming to better understand student learning has changed their approaches to course design, and how work on student self-awareness in the academic seminar has had an impact on their own self-awareness as
Jorge Porras, Modern Languages and Literatures, presented a paper in Spanish, 'Fundamentos sociolingüísticos de un programa bidialectal de español para estudiantes de heredad en los Estados Unidos", to LASSO (Linguistic Association of the South West), held in Lubbock, TX, October 7-9. Porras also chaired a session on discourse and narrative in the same Conference.Porras' recent activities include two accepted papers for publication and membership in the editorial board of a journal in South America".
