Author Signings and Staff Artisan Show All Part of
Seawolf Shops Holiday Open House

With the holidays fast approaching, SSU's Seawolf Shops Holiday Open House has been scheduled for Nov. 15 to 17. This year's events will feature book signings by local authors, a staff artisan show, and of course, cookies and warm apple cider for all attendees.

The authors featured at this year's book signing include former Disabled Student Services employee Anthony Tussler, who will be autographing his book “How to Create Disability Access to Technology” on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from noon to 1 p.m. Also featured will be current SSU student and author Jill Thornton, who will be signing her book “Running Through Deserts” on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from noon to 1 p.m.

In addition to book signings, each day of the Holiday Open House includes a staff artisan show presenting artistic works from SSU staff members. Paintings, sketches, pottery and other works will be available for sale directly from the artist.

The artists include:

Holly Morgan Sautner, a Santa Rosa local and SSU graduate.  After the traumatic incident of losing an ice cream cone under a cowboy's boot at an impressionable age, Holly has committed herself to creating boxes, purses and pillows of every size, shape and color imaginable. Holly's mission in life is to figure out that one thing that you wanted, but never thought of asking for, and then make it, bake it, compile it, create it, write it, paint it, draw it, sew it, glue it, nail it or knit it herself.

Perce Smith, from the Ethnic Studies Department. She got into bead work a while back, then left the craft for a few years. She picked it up again about four years ago and didn't realize how much she missed beading. She's had the opportunity to surprise her friends and family with gifts of necklaces, anklets earrings, etc.

Vicki Irey, Work Control System Administrator and Townhouse Manager with Facilities Services. She has worked at SSU for over 16 years and recently fell in love with beading and started wanting to put beads on just about everything. Then she discovered beaded book thongs (book markers) as a great way to 'personalize' a bookmark for a gift. She makes SSU book thongs.

Michelle Kelley, Housing Services, is a graduate of Sonoma State University, with a B.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology. She is currently working in Housing Services. Michelle began pottery in middle school, influenced by her mother’s work. Michelle’s mom, Roxanne is a professional artist, who graduated from the University of Illinois with a B. A. in art. Through playing with recycled clay on the weekends when she was a child to taking various art classes, Michelle has moved from simple hand building onto the skill of throwing. She now works in collaboration with her mom.

As well as the Holiday Open House, Faculty and Staff Appreciation Sale Days at Seawolf Shops runs from Nov. 15 to 22. Regular and sale-priced merchandise will be 25% off for all faculty and staff. However, this excludes textbooks, computer hardware and software, movie tickets, and magazines. For more information, visit http://www.seawolfshops.com.
