Workshop Leaders Needed
Workshop leaders are needed for the March 18 "Expanding Your Horizons" Conference to be held at SSU. The conference goal is to encourage seventh and eighth-grade girls and young women to sustain their interest in mathematics and science courses in high school so that they have more educational and career choices. The conference features hands-on workshops lead by women who have careers involving mathematics, science and technology.
Examples of workshops needed are:
-Veterinarians, vet technicians, veterinary lab technicians, marine
biologists
-Architects, building or city planners
-Bankers, stockbrokers, financial planners, realtors
-Small business owners
-Doctors, nurses, dentists, physical therapists, laboratory technicians,
pharmacists, optometrists, opticians, chiropractors, podiatrists,
researchers, etc
-Emergency responders (Emergency Medical Technicians), fire fighters,
police investigators, etc
-Scientists of every kind
-Computer programmers, technicians, designers
-Foresters, landscape architects
-Engineers of any type
-Teachers of math, science, technology, etc

Volunteers Needed for
Student Academic Competition
Adult volunteers are needed for the North Bay Regional Academic Decathlon, an educational competition for high school students on Saturday, Feb. 4 at Santa Rosa High School, 1235 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa. The theme this year is
"The European Renaissance." Coordinated by the Sonoma County Office of Education, the Academic Decathlon engages teams of students in a rigorous academic contest in which they must demonstrate and communicate their knowledge in 10 academic events. Students complete tests, an essay, speeches, and an oral interview. Volunteers are needed to serve as event proctors, judges, and timers and to help with event registration and logistics. The time commitment can vary from several hours to all day.
