Staff Excellence Award Nomination Period Begins
The 2006-2007 Staff Excellence Award nomination period is now open. The deadline for submission is March 1. This program recognizes outstanding service by staff members who display excellence in the categories of creativity, leadership/teamwork, initiative, enhancing the work environment, and special contributions to the University as a whole. It is awarded to two employees per year. All non-MPP staff, including members covered by bargaining units 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, confidential employees, and Academic Foundation employees in comparable positions are eligible for nomination. In addition, employees must have 12 months or more of SSU employment, work half-time or more, and have a commendable work record to be eligible. Research, Deadline Feb. 7
The deadline for submission of 05-06 RSCAP Mini-Grant applications is Tuesday, Feb. 7 by 4:30 p.m. in the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs in Nichols 146. Faculty may apply for awards of up to $5,000 for research, scholarship, or creative activities. The RFP and application forms are available on the ORSP Web site, or from the ORSP office. New Class in Teaching
English as a Second Language
The Sonoma State University linguistics program will hold an information session for those interested in the Teaching English as a Second Language certificate at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in Stevenson 2065. Enrollment for the spring semester has begun, and there are openings in the program. Classes start Monday, Jan. 30. Students may also attend single courses prior to applying to the program.
At the Wednesday meeting, professor Richard Senghas will address the TESL certificate and adult education credential, teaching English as a foreign language program, and continuing academic/professional development for teachers. Other issues discussed include qualifying for financial aid, and how some of these courses may be applied towards a Masters in Education in Curriculum, Teaching and Learning with an area emphasis in TESL.
