Honor a Woman Student Leader by Feb. 10

The Women's Resource Center and the Office of Campus Life are now
accepting nominations from faculty, staff and students for the 9th Annual
Woman Student Leader of the Year. Nominations are due Monday, Feb. 10. This annual award is presented as part of SSU's National Women's History
Month celebration to recognize female students who have performed
outstanding paid or volunteer campus service. It honors leaders in student
clubs, campus organizations, student government and academic departments.
Nominating a student for this award demonstrates the admiration and respect
the student has gained through her campus service. Nominees must also have a
minimum Fall 2005 Cumulative GPA of 2.5. A committee of staff and faculty
will review the nominations and select a winner. Send nomination by e-mail or campus mail to Heather M. Howard, Director, Office of Campus Life, Student Union or heather.howard@sonoma.edu.

Encourage Students for the California
Pre-Doctoral Program

Faculty members are encouraged to notify eligible students of the California Pre-Doctoral Program for the 2006-2007 academic year. The program is designed to increase the diversity of the pool of potential university faculty by supporting the doctoral aspirations of current upper division or graduate students in the CSU who are economically or educationally disadvantaged. Special emphasis will be placed on increasing the number of CSU students who enter graduate programs at one of the UC institutions.

Selected scholars work closely with a CSU faculty sponsor to develop a plan that leads ultimately to enrollment in a doctoral program. Pre-Doctoral awards, in the amount of $3,000, may be used for travel to doctorate-granting institutions and national symposia or professional meetings, for application and test fees, journal subscriptions, and membership in professional organizations. Up to $1,000 of the award may be used by the faculty sponsor for joint travel.

Selections are made at the Chancellor’s Office and are based upon information given in the application. Application packets are available in the Graduate Studies office, Stevenson 1041. Completed applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 24. For further information, contact David Hartranft or Elaine Sundberg at 4-2237.
