Dining Services Goes Vegan, Vegetarian
University Dining Services is introducing a Sonoma Greens Vegan and Sonoma Greens Vegetarian program to give the campus community an easy way to identify vegetarian and vegan items. "In the past we have had a difficult time consistently identifying the vegan and vegetarian options on campus," said Ryan Ernst, Director of Marketing and Quality Assurance. “Sonoma Greens should give us a way to present our offerings in a unified way.”
Customers will begin to see new label icons on all vegetarian and vegan menu selections. These icons will give customers the comfort of knowing the selected menu items are prepared in either the vegetarian or vegan style. It is the hope of University Dining Services that these icons will help the campus community to make healthy selections while dining on campus.
The Zinfandel Dining Hall menu and J’s North Coast Deli items (which can be found at Charlie Brown’s Café and Toast) have already introduced the icons. Zinfandel menu items include Garden Burgers, Vegetarian Crepes and Eggplant Parmesan. Charlie Brown’s and Toast have Tofu Salads, Vegan Spring Rolls and the Classico Pannini, among others. Additional venues will soon be adding items and icons to their menus and Dining Services hopes to have a full rollout complete by the end of February.
