Seawolf Shops Awards School of Business and Economics Textbook Scholarship
Seawolf Shops has awarded the Fall 2005 Textbook Scholarship to the School of Business and Economics. The scholarship benefits were awarded to a Business and Economics student for the Spring 2006 semester. The student, selected by the School, received all of his or her Spring 2006 semester textbooks for free. This marks the second straight win for Business and Economics and the fourth in the past five semesters.
The textbook scholarship program was started by Ken Brown, Director of Seawolf Shops, in the Fall of 2003. It is awarded to the school with the highest percentage of on-time textbook orders encouraging instructors to send in their textbook adoptions early. On-time orders allow Seawolf Shops to buy back more books from students which leads to more used book sales the following semester. A large volume of used textbooks helps to lower student textbook costs.
Dr. James Robertson, Dean of the School of Business and Economics, accepted the award saying “We know that this award will help one of our students a great deal.” Sheila Mackintosh-Sims, then Office Manager of the School of Business and Economics, was responsible for coordinating the textbook orders which was integral in making sure orders were submitted on time. Mackintosh-Sims is currently the academic adviser for the School.
This year, the School of Business and Economics was able to order more than 68 per cent of textbooks on time. Since Fall 2003, only the School of Science and Technology (in Fall 2004) has been able to out perform the School of Business and Economics to receive the scholarship.
