Elizabeth C. Martinez, Chicano and Latino Studies, has a cluster of book reviews on recent Dominican-American novels in the April issue of Americas magazine (published bilingually by the United Nations). She describes new novels by Loida Maritza Perez, Angie Cruz and Nelly Rosario, and their perspectives on race, ethnicity and the U.S.-Eastern experience.
Jann Nunn, Art, was invited to participate in the The Ides of March 5th Biennial Exhibition hosted by ABC No Rio in New York City. Nunn created “Transfuse” a new sculptural installation for the exhibition. The artwork measures 8’ x 8’ x 2’ and is made of steel, glass, wood, fabric and wine. The show opened on March 17 and runs through April 14.
Terry Wright, Geology, emeritus, presented a lecture on the relationship between geology, soils and wine quality at the Wine Library of Sonoma County annual meeting in February at the Kendall-Jackson Center. He also served on the steering committee for a five-day international conference entitled "Terroirs 2006" on March 19-23 at UC Davis. There, he gave a poster session, chaired a session on geology and led a field trip to the Russian River AVA. More information is available on his website at
