Chuck Rhodes, Director of Student Development and Equity Retention, has been named Assistant Vice President in the University's new Student Affairs and Enrollment Management division. In his new role, Rhodes will continue to have oversight of Residence Life and the division's equity retention efforts and will also assume a leadership role in the area of student academic support services, including but not limited to, the division's instructional programs in the First Year Experience (Univ 102) and Leadership Skills (Univ 238).

In his more than 30-year tenure at Sonoma State University, Rhodes has made his imprint on the campus in many ways, including organizing and leading a Residence Life unit that sees retention as a key component of its mission, serving on the development team for the Educational Mentoring Team program and the first Freshman Seminar, leading the curriculum development team for the Foundations of Leadership course, and for myriad activities in support of improving campus diversity.

He developed and implemented a targeted admission outreach program for southeast Los Angeles, an annual welcome back luncheon picnic for African American students and a Black Student Thanksgiving dinner tradition. He is known for his ability to create and sustain community, a focus on retention and student satisfaction, and a commitment to supporting student success for historically underrepresented populations.
