Discounts for employees are available for the Green Music Festival's 4th of July Celebration at SSU which has become one of the region's most popular musical and fireworks displays. Featuring guest conductor Adam Flatt (Associate Conductor, Colorado Symphony), the Santa Rosa Symphony will perform traditional favorites and a variety of all-American music. Setting the stage for the evening performances, Dixieland, Cajun and Mariachi musicians will roam the green to entertain. Gates open at 4 p.m., the Symphony performs at 7:30 p.m., immediately followed by the county’s most impressive fireworks display. Conference Looks at Sustainable Food Systems

Hutchins Professor Debora Hammond, with a dedicated committee of food and environment advocates, is producing a conference on campus called "Food Matters in Sonoma County," linking the entire San Francisco Bay Area with national and international participants. "Food Connections—Building Healthy Pathways from Seed to Table," begins Friday evening July 14 with a roster of speakers including Anuradha Mittal, Oakland Institute, international expert on trade, development, human rights and agriculture issues; and Janet Brown, Center for Ecoliteracy, organic farmer and author of Rethinking School Lunch and Thinking Outside the Lunchbox.

The conference continues on Saturday, July 15 with a hands-on systems thinking workshop, and break out sessions offering opportunities to apply systems tools across multiple sectors, including agriculture, land use and planning, energy, waste management, public policy, environment, transportation, health and wellness, retail and marketing, and labor.
